2024 Season Standings
Fan of the Month
“Gigi” Gisette traveled 2,193 miles from San Juan, Puerto Rico to watch ACRD play!
ACRD: What is your most favorite part of roller derby?
G: The fight between the wall and jammer. And of course, watching my daughters Goomba Toomba and Manic Mayhem play.
ACRD: How long have you been interested in roller derby?
G: I’ve been watching roller derby since the late 70s. When I was younger, I would skate in a cement bowl, and we would have mock games with everyone in the neighborhood.
ACRD: Who’s your favorite team: Deadly Kennedys (the team Mayhem is on) or Bombshell Brigade (the team Goomba is on)?
G: Hahaha, I cannot choose. Always both. Each team has different strengths and are a blast to watch on the track.

Skater of the Month
Derby Name: Lady Twist-Her
Number: 14
Position: Jammer + Blocker
ACRD: How did you come up with your derby name?
LT: My derby name is a combination of my last name, which is Laird, which means Lord of the Land. The female version of Lord is Lady. And Twist-Her is a play on words of being a force of destruction.
ACRD: What do you love about roller derby?
LT: I love that roller derby is such a physical sport. I guess I like to hit people. 🤣 My advice to those who want to join roller derby is to give yourself time to improve. The game can seem like controlled chaos and never-ending whistles (that don’t stop live play)! It takes a while to settle into the flow of the game and feel comfortable in the chaos! Give yourself time and just keep showing up!
ACRD: What’s a fun fact that most people don’t know about you?
LT: As a kid I showed horses and barrel raced
.
Derby 101
Roller derby looks like chaos but there’s a method to the madness. Each month, we shine a light on a key part of the game.
June Terminology: Positions
Jammer: Helmet with a star. The only player who can score points. After their initial pass through the pack, the jammer gets a point for every person on the opposing team they pass!
Blocker: Simultaneously plays offense and defense. They block the opposing jammer and clear the path for their own jammer.
Pivot: Helmet with a stripe. Head blocker and calls plays. The pivot can receive the jammer star and become the jammer for the remainder of a single jam.
The Pack: The largest group of skaters within 10 feet of one another.
